From SPORTFISHING ILLUSTRATED:
We use rum to hasten the demise of large fish which we’ve just landed. If you don’t do something, subduing that fish can be a big deal---especially if it’s a cruising boat without a big live well to slide the fish into. If you pour a little rum onto the fish’s gills, it becomes very peaceful very fast, and passes on to fish heaven.

So True. I've seen it happen myself at Trader Vic's.

In honor of our beloved tikifish's birthday I too have created a new drink:

The Fish Bite
1 oz Whaler's Rum
1 oz Parrot Bay Passionfruit Rum
1/2 blue Curacao
1 condiment-size McDonalds tartar sauce pack

pour ingredients over ice in a tall ice-tea glass (tartar sauce last). Garnish with Pepperidge Farm Goldfish crackers and a small rubber shark. Wedge glass in cleavage and drink quickly through straw before ice causes "prickly pufferfish" syndrome. Have another.

Happy Birthday!
