The more people who get involved with planning any eccentric project, the more diluted any idea becomes. Too bad about your party.

Do you have a Mercedes and room for a pony?

Did people stay late, or were thy just polite? If they seemed to have fun, then it's not all bad. Do you think any of your guests sensed that she took-over?

There was an interesting piece by Cherry Capri in the Tiki Magazine that has hints on party giving. One piece of advise she gives is to keep extra bowls on hand (that stick with the theme) for what-ever odds and ends people bring...(sort if giving you the upper hand in the control stuggle)

Perhapes next party you will need an active volcano to throw a certain somebody into? (make one with a wood chipper and paper mache?)
