There is a 1932 Betty Boop cartoon called 'Bamboo Isle'. The cartoon seems to capture how folks (Americans, at least) visualized Polynesia in the 30s. The cartoon is pretty politically incorrect by today's standards. The cartoon has music provided by a group called The Royal Samoans. There are a number of rotoscoped Polynesian dance sequences, as well as a topless(!) Betty Boop. You can check it out at Archive.org. Boop-oop-a-doop-oop! |
