sf dinner at original joe's tuesday 12-27-2005 ! - California Events

A couple of us are meeting at Original Joes in SF about 6:30pm Tuesday 12-27 before their waiter extraordinaire Angelo is retiring Dec. 31. If you can't join us, I highly urge you to go before he gomes home late New Years eve! Call them to verify their holiday hours-Original Joe's (415) 775-4877 They will be closed Dec.24 and Dec 25! See my other blog entry for more about Original Joes. I LOVE this guy, he is great and an experience that no one should miss! He is going back to Croatia (which turns out to be his home country) for a well deserved vacation-I always thought his thick accent was Italian! He has been working there since 1960--wow, 45years!!! Well, a sadness hit me about his leaving my favorite vintage SF restaurant-you gotta check out this place!! I figured I better get back there soon, before he goes! He told me that he is working all nights through the end of this year. You better run, don't walk and when you get to Joes, ask for Angelo's section-you won't be sorry." my first Original Joes blog entry; "ORIGINAL JOE'S --SF! I was walking back towards BART from my work last night and I was wondering what should I eat for dinner? I didn't feel like going to the store for groceries, amd I already had something like 3000 burritos this week. Then it struck me....ORIGINAL JOES! I love this place. I eat there at least once a month. I walked in and was able to get a seat at a booth in Angelo's section. Angelo is a great waiter, the best they have. He calls me "Paisan" in his thick Italian acccent whenever he sees me. "Where are your friends tonight" he asks me. I say that I am alone tonight. He answers back, "Well, you are going to have fun and they won't!" Angelo's accent is so thick and he speaks so fast that many of my friends don;t understand what he says. Last night I only understood about half of what he said. I ordered my usual Martini for an appetizer, and last night I ordered the yummy Italian Salad; lettuce, pepperoncini, a hardboiled egg, salami slices and topped with tuna salad, a black olive and oil and vinegar dressing. I have also enjoyed the Joes Special, their Pot Roast and their greasy flamed broiled burgers!. As I eat my dinner(the salad), I feel like I am in Heaven!! At least a little bit of Heaven in the Tenderloin! Original Joes in all it's original 30's/50's splendor is at 144 Taylor Street in SF. It has been there since 1937! GO!!!!"
