Nestled in the Yacht harbor in Marina Del Rey, it still has it's original exterior landscaping, with Koy fish in the lagoon and old growth bamboo in the parking lot, and still serves a mean rum barrel cocktail (in the above container). Built by Burt Hixson in the early 60s, in the Trader/Beachcomber style. Burt used to be the skipper on John Wayne's private yacht (infamous for it's stag parties), and travelled all over the world as documentary camera man. In the restaurant there are great photos of him with various natives holding the Warehouse menu, very funny. In the 70s, he opened Beachbum Burt's (Book of Tiki p. 79), but this endeavor did not last very long. |
