Thanks for the kind words and aloha. It means alot to me,especially coming from you guys. These are the only type of carving tools I have used except for chainsaw, drill press and grinders. If anyone is interested in getting some,Kestrel Tool is available online. But you better hurry, because He is retiring in 3 months and they won't be making them anymore. They also have classes every year with world class carvers teaching them.I just bought the blades and made the handles. They are a joy to use.The next one I want is the lip adze. That thing can really move some wood! And neatly.
I just cut the abalone on a cheapo tile saw.I want to put a lapidary blade in it,so there is more grit on the side of the blade for shaping.
The first tiki I want to do is the god Maui.He seems to have been very busy pulling islands out of the sea including Hawaii,Tahiti, and Aeoteoroa. This is a picture of a Maui that I bought from a Tongan carver who paddled up to my boat on an outrigger canoe years ago.
It may be silly, but I would Never go to sea without that carving.
I need to do some research before I do some preliminary scetches, so if anyone has any images, legends,or leads where I can find out more about Maui, please lay it on me.
Is the book of tiki something online?
I'm sorry, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to change url to img.
Benzart,I just looked at that Lono carving you did,and it is really amazing!
You must've made quite a pile of woodchips over the years to get that good.
I have only had time to go through a small portion of the posts here, but the work you people are doing is very inspiring
