Music download - Tiki Music

Unfortunately, I'm really new at music downloads and have had a very hard time finding some music on cd. On top of living in nearly Tiki-less Colorado, I've had limited success with finding cd's on the internet. Regarding copywrited music, when does a copywrite run out on a song or album? Specifically I'm looking at Frank Hunter's White Goddess album and wondering that since the album hasn't been reissued, but a few of the songs have appeared on compilation albums, if downloading the album is legal.
