Acoording to an old interior decortating book of mine, the only definition is thick textured cotton...pretty vague! The best way to tell is if it is polished or really textured, the most textured stuff being what most people will consider barkcloth. It is was made much past the late 60's its not usually what collectors consider "barkcloth". I hope someone else has a better way to tell, really, its know it when you have it, if you don't think it is or can't tell it probably isn't.
