I heard the same thing from a couple of locals when I was there a year ago about the economy getting real bad at that time. What happened? In addition to what Humuhumu said, there was hurricane Iniki on September 11 (!) 1992. I'm not sure how that affected Oahu, but in Kauai a lot of local businesses never recovered. I don't remember for sure, but it might've been the straw that broke the back of the Coco Palms as well. -Randy
