My definition is just a very large umbrella style with the palm fronds on top. I'm not sure of their definition. A palapa to me is the whole umbrella style structure not just a part, or how it's tied. They only make the huts and bars. I'm looking for one for my backyard. I have found several websites that sell them, but I don't want to buy online. I want to see it, touch it, maybe buy it, and then build one, or a hundred.
