I too did not get involved from the very beginning for basically the same reason Bong cited. Plus, I don't like to make promises I can't keep, and personally, I knew I hadn't an extra dime to contribute. We certainly are in the midst of an extremely difficult time financially for many, many people in this country. Charities from coast to coast are losing money; as a retailer myself, I'm reminded every day of what Lewis Carroll's White Queen told Alice--you have to run as fast as you can just to stay in the same place, and if you want to GET anywhere you must run at least twice as fast as that! Hence, if you are asking folks for money, you'd best be polite, tactful and patient about it!!! Frankly, even if I had it, I wouldn't give that guy a red cent now. Grrr.
