A lot of us present day haole carvers are looking to do what the carvers of the polynesian pop era did back in the day. That is, start with the source...

sketch it up...

And mix in our own style for a new tiki interpretation.

Lanikai, do you have any pictures or images to share? I can tell you that lots of people spend time researching the older polynesian forms, especially in the "Creating" Forum. I am always on the lookout to find images of the older Hawaiian carvings, before the beautiful (but not historically accurate) Tongan carvings that are sold all over the islands these days. The "Hawaiian Hall" pics are listed as artifacts. Beyond that I cannot tell you, except that I've seen a number of Lonos in this general style. Share the knowledge, if you've got it.
