Mugs that were talked about in the "collection" board a week ago. Selling one... Item number - 230009214337 They stand 5" inches X 4" inches and are made of a interesting glassy sand mold. It's feels and looks like stone but the sand has been heated in the mold so it turns a little glassy. It's real heavy like stone! You can see the inside of the casting on the mug's bottom. They are made so you drop one of the old style plastic cone coffee cup inserts in. MINT CONDITION! On the back there is this written in the mold - "Compliments of Dependable Fordath Inc". researching online I found this... This is online patent info for: "Apparatus for combining high speed horizontal and high speed vertical continuous mixing of sand and binder ingredients for mold making purposes" for - Dependable-Fordath, Inc. (Sherwood, OR) 1979 - The estate sale where these were found was in Sherwood Oregon. Most likely these where made in house by them, as a promotional give away or salesman's sample item. This is a rare and odd INDUSTRIAL made tiki type mug. Most likely molded in a metal works mold. Art work obviously not a true Polynesian tiki. I think it's a hybrid type mug done by someone who was looking at a few different bits of tiki or Central American art. Although someone said it reminded them of the cover of the book "The Kon Tiki". But you be the judge. Regardless they are cool! Perfect for a tiki mug collection. This auction is for 1 of the 3 mugs that I found. Mahalo! |
