All through my childhood, up to the years I was in Highschool, I used to ride my bike by Beachbum Burt's on my way to the Redondo Beach Pier. I never went inside though. As a nice, Christian boy, "Beachbum Burt's" had the sound of a place I probably shouldn't be seen in. If only I knew then what I know now.

Doctor Z has been inside though. So he might be able to give his impressions. I believe the Cheesecake Factory now stands in its place.

Doctor Z and I frequently find drink glasses from Burt's at local garage sales, but not as often as we find them from "Tony's On The Pier", (Another amazing Redondo Beach vintage restaurant/bar with restrained beachcomber decor that's still open today).

The glasses are very appealing, with a Don The Beachcomber feel to them:

Here's a postcard with an artist's-rendering of the building itself:

Doctor Z can correct me on this, but I'm told the center of the roof was completely missing, so that there was an open-air courtyard in the middle. I don't remember Burt's being quite so picturesque as the postcard depicts it.

All in all, another amazing piece of South Bay tiki/beachcomber history that's gone forever. I collect every bit of memorabilia I can find from this place.
