If you start it with a low price(such as 99 cents) folks won't be afraid to bid. Many e-bayers won't bid until the last few minutes of an auction. I would suggest exactly what you've done - a shorter auction of 7 days or less with a low starting bid. This way it may work up to a bidding fever! I really like this mug and may bid, now that the starting price is way low, and I don't have to wait 2 weeks for the auction to end. I think it's easier to be an e-bay seller after you've been an e-bay buyer.
