I'm diggin the little basswood guy. It seems you like the hook knofe - here's a suggestion - Once you get the big cuts done with the Hook switch over to a straight blade for smoothing and detail. I have found that the hooked blade can stray from where I want it to go on the small cuts. Also try using a lighter stain on that Basswood - it reacts really nice with the grain and gives a cool variation of tones.
