I have noticed that the service has improved lately. Perhaps if you quote the review from your book (maybe leave out mention of bad food and service!) they might let you have a book event there early in the evening. Otherwise, Trader Vic's in Emeryville loves to host tiki freaks - ask for Claudette Lum and speak to her about it. She is a Maitre D' there and she has been with Vic's for over 30 years. Another option is to contact Otto and arrange something with him at one of the local bars where maybe he could DJ and perhaps get a band to play.
