I have a friend that goes to jam island a few times a year. They brought back a bottle of what they call overproof.
It's probably Wray and Nephew Overproof rum. It's available here in some liquor stores. It's a different flavor than Lemon Hart 151 or Bacardi 151 but makes a great substitute for light rum if you want an extra kick. Or if you can't find Myers' platinum and you want to make a drink that calls for light Jamaican rum (as in some of the recipes in the Don the Beachcomber book).
I bought a bottle of Appleton light rum (also from Jamaica) in Baja last week. Something I have not seen in the U.S. It was only about $15 for a 1 liter bottle.
There's appleton light rum at Hi Times in Costa Mesa, too.
Just saw it last night. Don't remember how much it was.
