The last banana drink thread was very old, so I took the liberty.

My significant other asked for a banana drink this weekend, so I consulted the Beachbum and took a look through my ingredients. Here are my results and I hope others will offer suggestions for the future.

Banana Boat -- Intoxica!, page 16

The banana liqueur I used was 99 Bananas, and as Jed Clampett would say, whoo dawgies! That spirit took over the whole drink. I also had to fudge a little with the coconut ingredient -- had no coconut cream so I used coconut milk, doubled it and left out the half-and-half to compensate.

All we could taste was 99 Bananas, and very little sweetness.

Next time I'll try this with a creme de banana instead, and if I use the coconut milk I might add a little coconut syrup. I'm not fond of the waxiness of coconut cream.

Planet of the Apes -- Grog Log, page 62

This drink calls for a hefty slurp of dark Jamaican rum. I used Myers, and again, the 99 Bananas. This time 99 Bananas took a backseat and the Myers just creamed every other ingredient. All we tasted was perfumey Myers. You'd never know there was pineapple, orange and lime juice in there.

If I make this again, i might use a golden rum instead, then maybe I'd taste some of the other ingredients.
