There is a name/meaning for that notched design; possibly representing taniwha/monsters teeth(?) or perhaps an 'ancestral' pattern denoting the passing generations(?). Im embarrassed to admit that I dont know for certain. Perhaps B.K would know; he seems pretty well versed in these things..?
