I think thats a Maori Patu (or a mere, meremere, kotiate) probably made in New Zealand from matai wood, the carving is quite detailed so I suspect it was made in the 1960's. The club is missing its strap which would go through the bottom hole.

Quite a nice tourist piece, and a jolly good find.
