He had been battling leukemia for at least the past three years. Not only was he an outstanding coach that basically invented the entire "West Coast Offense", but he was one hell of a great human being. In a statement by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell - "He taught all of us not only about football but also about life and how it takes teamwork for any of us to succeed as individuals."
