Description:
New to the North Bay, the Hawaiian Kona Cafe opened its doors June 2007. Still under Hawaiian decor rennovation, this coffee house / restaurant serves Kona coffee, smoothies and freezes, and great Hawaiian food. The menu includes kalua pig and cabbage, laulau, teriyaki chicken and beef, and beef short ribs. The lunchtime menu offers the meat selections above served as a "plate meal" which includes rice, but also offers a kalua pig sandwich, spam musubi, and a veggie burger. A full dinner is available which gives you the choice of 2 of the meats along with 2 scoops of rice, a bowl of Portuguese sausage soup, and your choice of either a green salad with passion fruit dressing or macaroni salad. (There is easily enough food at dinner for two people!) There is also a kids menu.

The smoothies and freezes are made from fresh and frozen berries, yogurts and ice creams, in wonderful Tropical flavors. Real Kona coffee and coffee drinks are brewed up too. (I have heard they are looking into a liquor licence, but no alcoholic beverages are currently served. A little rum added to a smoothie is a GOOD thing!)

On Friday nights (7pm - 10pm), HKC features live Hawaiian music by local artists. Faith Ako (www.faithako.com) has been performing most Friday nights since the cafe opened. She has a fantastic singing voice, and performs Hawaiian songs, both contemporary and vintage (no hapa haole tunes, sorry).

If you happen to be in the Sonoma Valley wine area (near Santa Rosa), please stop in for a little aloha and some good eats. Donna is the owner of this new establishment. She is a wonderful lady and serves up some very great Island treats.
