It is not rocket science to be able to announce a delivery date given that production has to be scheduled well in advance. If the book is not ready for production, production gets set back. Publishing 101. Announcing a delivery date that was a "what if" kind of thing is what is happening here. Some will say "but it will be worth the wait" and that is the excuse that allows people not to meet commitments. It does not make any difference how good it is. If it was promised by a given deadline, it needed to be delivered. Period.
