wasn't the moa of New Zealand of the struthious group of birds that lacked the keeled breastbone for flight? WOW!! The two Mai Tais I just downed are really working. Just read about the moa in chapter 14 of Robert Suggs 1960 book"THE ISLAND CIVILIZATIONS OF POLYNESIA" A good read but way off topic.
