Lots of insight from a select group of musicians who know more about exotica music (in the technical sense) than I do. The thread reminds me of some of the past carving debates, where some felt the need to defend and uphold the traditional styles and methods of Polynesian carving, while others focused more on their own modern interpretations. I myself may pendulum swing from one carving/musical preference to the other, but the discussions here alerts me to the many different ways there are to think about music, for those moments when I do want to actively listen.
