Their stats have probably shown that women tend to order less off their tiki menu and more single pours, wine etc. So, in trying to attract women to the bar, an offer of 50% off tiki drinks wouldn't do much good.
By the same token, offering discounted beers and single pours to the guys may result in a bunch of frat boy beer guzzlers, changing the dynamic of the Molokai Bar. So, my thought is, they're trying to keep the guys ordering Tiki drinks while allowing women more flexibility. This may be 2008, but differences between the sexes personal preference (statistically speaking) shouldn't be ignored either.
In the UK, many bars still proudly post signs prohibiting "same-sex groups", even in 2008. This isn't meant to be discriminatory - they're simply trying to discourage "sword-fights" or stag nights / doe parties.
