Yesterday's sunset:

I have all the details worked out for the new contest, and will be posting the announcement and official rules later this afternoon. Stay tuned!

Meanwhile, back in the tiki world:

stained with some red oak

It has some good contrast between the red and brown shades. I didn't want it too dark, or to be monochromatic. I'm happy with the results. Final step will be to put on some rub on poly.

I think it should be one of those fantastic tiki bling rings. (Size 5)

Like last contest, the prize winners(notice the plural)will get to choose the prizes again. Good luck!

great work buzz, love that to-do-list
is this latest one the first in a series of "tiki posers"?

This tiki has features from my other to do list. For these two tikis, the guy who wanted them needed the following things done:

  1. Two tikis
  2. Kinda Maori styled
  3. Tongues on both
  4. Tattoos on both
  5. At least 5' tall
  6. at least 12" diameter
  7. Dont carve deep
  8. Must support a load
  9. needs places for rebar into the base
  10. Arms over head to look like they're holding up the roof
  11. Big eyes
  12. fat guys
  13. Full bodied
  14. Has to make sense 360 degrees because they will be visible from all angles
  15. Make them look the same, but different
  16. Put a belly button on them
  17. leave as much mass on the bottom of the carvings as possible
  18. Give them nice round butts
I think that was it. I had to take all these factors into consideration when I carved these. The arms above the head request really made it challenging, coupled with the fact that they had to look right from all angles. The second one only has one arm up because I did the same but different request on that part. He's kind of got a good curl to him. First tiki I've done with the head off center line and asymetrical.

At this point he looks like he has a beer in the hand.

At this point, he kinda looks like a self portrait. He shall now be known as the "It's Five o'clock Somewhere Tiki!"

Sunny day. Getting close to 70 degrees. Tiki time!
Buzzy Out!
