My buddy Michael U. was in Monitor in the 80's. Monitor's side band was The Tikis.

Wow, Tony, I didn't know you knew Michael! Those photos of his bar are intense - probably the best in-home bar I have ever seen. he is in Tiki Art Now and of course jeffrey vallance has a nice intro piece in Tiki Art Two book

I attended one or two Meccas in LA in the 80s and went to Stuart's desert gig as I was a big Savage Republic fan.
(aka Bruce Licher, Independent Project Press, Scenic).

Exoticon - the 1996 show that I co-booked with artwork by Shag, 10 DJs (Byron Werner, Senor Amor, etc), 8 bands (Combustible Edison, etc), that hailed the arrival of the Lounge scene in LA - was built upon those 80s gigs with art, music, art students and scenesters colliding. In the audience were Korla Pandit, Matt Groening, Mark Mothersbaugh, etc

There is a new documentary out on Boyd Rice though I have not seen it
