PRESS RELEASE:

Aloha!

Forbidden Island is pleased to announce our first ever Vintage Tiki Mug Auction! As many of you are aware, collecting vintage tiki mugs has exploded in popularity over the past several years, and they have become some of the hottest collectible items in the world of tiki. Tiki Mugs offer a window to the great lost tiki bars of the past, as well as the intricate designs and craftsmanship of generations of talented artists. Colorful, diverse, and endlessly entertaining, it’s easy to see why Tiki Mugs hold such a place of prominence on many collectors’ shelves.

For many years, digging through the bric-a-brac at thrift stores yielded these little ceramic gems, but sadly those days are virtually over- these days, you’re most often left to eBay and chance. Now, Forbidden Island wants to bring together as many buyers and sellers as we can for a one-day extravaganza. Imagine hundreds of mugs, all in one place, and all ready to go- no waiting, no breaking in the mail, and no eBay fees- just mugs in your hands! Here’s how it will work:

-This event will feature a combination of live and silent auctions- looks for tables set up around Forbidden Island with mugs for silent auction, and then one or two live auction sessions in the parking lot out back featuring ultra-premium and one of a kind mugs.

-This will be limited to strictly vintage or collectible tiki mugs. If the mug was recently made, it must have been from a limited edition that is now sold out- it should not be for sale from any regular retailer. Vintage tiki salt & pepper shakers are welcome as well.

-Plus drink specials and some surprises!

It all takes place SATURDAY, APRIL 5TH , 2008, starting at 12:00pm! Don’t miss this unique opportunity for both buyers and sellers- lots of excitement, good friends, and good tiki!

Here’s the fine print:

BUYERS: Be prepared to bring a current ID, a valid credit card, and lots o’ spending money! You will need to register upon arrival with your details so that we can insure our sellers will be paid. (All information collected will be kept strictly confidential and will not be used for any other purpose) All bids made are binding agreements. Please note that Forbidden Island will not have an ATM available and FI will not be involved with transactions between buyers and sellers other than registering buyers, so make sure you bring plenty of spending money.

SELLERS: If you are interested in selling, please register by sending an email to [email protected]. Registration is just $30 and must be made in advance- payment info will be provided when you write that address. You choose which mugs you want to sell silently or live. No reserve pricing is allowed, but you may set any starting price you like. We strongly recommend you bring a friend to help watch your table and answer customer questions.

It would be probably be a good idea for everyone to bring a tote bag and some butcher paper/bubble wrap as well!!

See you there! Mahalo!
