One more Japan suggestion for the exotica/bizarro fan. There's a super phonebook sized tome called Roadside Japan by Kyoichi Tsuzuki with great photos and info about off-the-beaten-path stuff to see.

This is an amazon link just for reference, since it shows the book cover, featuring a roadside moai park in Japan, unfortunately pretty far north I think. Amazing! Wish I could've seen it. The book also shows a "Fantasy Museum" in the Nagoya area, an amazing fantasy underwater world museum with a restaurant and unbelievable decor all made with seashells. Hopefully someday I can put up some photos from that place.
