My mold has a place to pour a handle. I have poured three samples. The first one came out too thick. I did a little research on the subject. The mold is made out of plaster (which is h2o soluable). It is 2 pieces. You put these huge rubber bands around the mold to hole it secure. You then pour in a liquid clay called "slip". You can have a mixologist at any ceramics place mix it for you.. It cost about 5 bucks a gallon. So.. you have your mold full to the top with slip.. you let it sit for a few minutes..there is a way to check the thickness as it dries.. any who.. when your mug is a as thick as need be.. you pour out the remaining slip back into it's container to be reused. Then you turn the mold upside down and let it drain. Keep it that way for a few hours till pretty darn dry. If you try to pull the mold apart too soon.. your mug will be wet and colapse. When all that is said and done & the mug is dry you can sand it down and clean up any blemishes. This is called Greenware. Next you fire it.. when you do this it will turn white. Thats when you can glaze it and refire it for a shiny look. My mugs I poured are still just greenware. I think I need to do a few more practice pours before I fire anything..
