Bigbro, you may have been just being rhetorical, but I'll answer your reversed print lament anyway. Those shirts were/are meant for locals, especially professionals, who wear them every day. Nice pants, black shoes, and a subdued Aloha shirt - that's the accepted and expected business attire in Hawaii. Modern style is to tuck them in - old school/more local is to leave them untucked. You wear the uniform, you fit in. Bright, bold shirts are for the tourists and mainland visitors.

Sadly, most younger professionals don't much care for Aloha wear - they prefer polo shirts. I kind of think of Aloha wear as a duty - when all those tourists gawk at us while riding down Bishop Street on the trolley, I think it should look like they are in Hawaii, not LA.
