I highly recommend taking Highway 99 between the SF Bay area and LA either when you are going down or heading back. About 90 minutes outside of SF (depending on traffic) is Minnies in Modesto, CA. Minnies is an old tiki bar and chinese restaurant. It is worth the visit. Also a must see is Forbidden Island in ALameda just across from San Francisco and Oakland. This modern tiki bar is a masterpiece and it feels like an ancient tiki bar inside. The drinks rock and will knock yer socks off!
