I am not sure what the message is here.

More tourism = more damage only if nothing is done, and this article does not offer any solutions. Security guards? Raise the price of getting there to limit tourism or pay for a security detail? Something else? This is not the first world site to have this experience - the pyramids and other sites come to mind where changes have been made over the years, but tourism continues.

This article leaves me with the impression that the problem is as simple as too many tourists, therefore they should reduce or eliminate the tourists as the solution.

It seems that more could be done to protect the artifacts from damage, but it should not be the elimination of tourism. If you eliminate tourism, what's the point of preserving something no one sees?
