This drink makes an excellent example of what has happened to cocktails through the ages to today..... an original recipe that was kept secret, then someone got close enough on their own and co-opted the 'original' title and advertised the hell out of it, which led to it being copied over and over again until what is 'common' is nothing like the original. Examples being the Margarita, Martini, Mai-Tai, Hurricane, Zombie, etc..... All fine examples of a good cocktail. And all of them so horrible screwed up by your average bartender as to be practically undrinkable.
