There isn't a great deal of definitive differentiation. The song 'Buena Vista Social Club' is probably the only song -- it being instrumental and very 'cocktail'/sophisto-nightclub-sounding -- that could fit in fairly snugly alongside the likes of Les Baxter, Martin Denny, and Arthur Lyman. 'El Carretero' is perhaps my favourite of all the songs; something about that ascending/descending stand-up bass rhythm that gets me. The song has a dark, romantic appeal to it.
