I decided you are right, that handle really wouldn't be functional and there was no "drinkable edge" (I was going to use a straw). I whacked the handle off and doubled the thickness of the ears since they will end up being de facto handles, now there's a "drinkable edge" on the back of the head. Cass, glaze shouldn't be too bad, I'll do a black wash and a clear glaze so the color of the clay shows. The Kamapua'a kiln plug I did (page 5) was a "test tile". Thanks again all.
