I finally got the drum the shade I wanted after a couple more coats of stain:

First two pictures show it closest to the real color. Next one is kind of light:

Looks like I need to run down to the hide store...

In other crafts news, a glaze firing at Babalu studio yielded me another finished mug. This was the first mug I made, second one to be finished

Here it is in a side by side with mug #2

Finally!...

Thanks Babalu! Hey, I saw you mentioned in Tiki magazine. Some other Babalu dude who slings clay says your one offs inspired him. Nice work!

:( Give Kiva a big kiss for me! I know she's been lucky to have a great life with you.

I know I haven't posted here in quite a while. Have barely posted on TC much at all. But I have been watching the progression of the chairs which came out beautiful! I look forward to planting my ass on one at Frankie's sometime in the spring! This drum is looking very nice as well. I'll try to catch you during a broadcast sometime soon.

Cool Jen. Been wondering where you've been. I've mostly been broadcasting in the day lately, but long winter nights of live broadcasting are upon us. See you there!

The drum, on the other hand, looks like it was carved by the friendly and happy natives of the Isle of Awww; which I suppose it was.

I love those happy natives...

That's a great looking drum, Buzzy. One of your best, I think.
You're Cammo are so entertaining. Cammo! Hand sanding sure is hard work. Gosh I'm tired!

You'll have to check my Buzzy Tiki Workout video for some tips on increasing your carving stamina. I rarely get tired anymore.

WOW! I need to investigate further to see if Buzzabuzza video is eligible for votes through the Bowana of Motion Picture Arts & Science, Ladies and Gentleman, we have a winner!

Hopefully I can get my own TV show and you can be part of the crew. Then we could hang out again.

Actually, one of them rocks...

Hi Buzzy!! I like the Drum, dude!! Make sure you actually get to play it before you sell it. That thing looks cool as hell!!!

I've been following hippies around hoping one of them would lead me to a drum circle. Where's a Dead show parking lot when you need one?

I've always hoped some carver(s) on TC would take up drums.
This is a beaut. I can't wait to see it strung tightly with shark hide!
Great looking piece.

Thanks SN! I was Youtube thinking of stretching a bear hide over it. I think it would sound cool to say it's made from real bear.

the drum.
Very cool Buzzy...I've thought about drums off and on...but it looks like
way too much work...looks perfect to me.

It's not that it's too much work, it's just that most of the work isn't fun.

...maybe Buzzy should just do the obvious thing and move to Maui, carve, and sell to the Japanese tourists for Sneakytiki actualy.

I thought Japan got poor a few years ago?

Good work Buzzy. Are you charging per chair or per hour?

Actually, by the pound. That's why they are so heavy.

whats next - tables? lounges? oversized forks and spoons? (oh wait...)

I'm going to try and put a tiki on things that have never had a tiki on them before. If it doesn't have a tiki on, I'm working on it.

Great job Buzzy...Buzzy so so funny too GMAN :D .... Can't wait to plop my tired ass in one of those crazy tiki chairs .. & yeah? take a picture of someone, not the dog sitting in a chair, just for the effect. Is there a cushion or no?

These chairs are like spiky high heels: meant to look good at the expense of being comfortable. I couldn't take any seeksurf with a person in them because as of that post, they were long gone already.

On 2008-11-09 08:59, buzzy wrote:
do we have a picture of someone sitting in one of those chairs

No. I don't have any friends. You're too big for them anyway.

What's the verdict? Are you going to add cushions?

They are definitely more comfortable than standing up.
