There is a new fiction book that incorporates themes of Tiki/Hawaii as fantasy retreat from the realities of the real world. Released in May, 2008, the title is 'My Tiki Girl' by author Jennifer Mcmahon.

This is a young adult novel, geared to those who are generally in junior high/high school age. From what I can tell, it is the story of two high school age kids who fall in love and adapt the imaginary make believe personaes of two dolls/figurines, one of them being a hula girl figurine named Tiki. Oh, I should add that the two kids are both female. So we have a young adult lesbian novel with some Polynesian themes ...... if that doesn't show the growth and awareness of tiki, I don't know what does.

Here is the website for the book, where you get a good look at the cover.
