the chef shangri-la is located at 26th and des plaines in north riverside......riverside is next to berwyn and both are suburbs of chicago yet they don't feel like suburbs because they are only 8 miles outside the city...... i suggest your friends look to berwyn for housing as they have some of the best stock of old bungalow houses available at the lowest prices yet.....the metra is close so if they work in the city it's a short trip by train....chicago is in the middle of taxing it's citizens into oblivion right now.....this is the worst time to move to chicago city proper.....unless your friends have money to burn and don't mind insane tax hikes ....i suggest they look in the surrounding neighborhoods to avoid the chaos that is happening right now....it's only gonna get worse too.....they are expecting parking meters to charge $6.50 an hour in 2 years time for example....property taxes will be out of this world in chicago.... on another note, we spent a good part of the day fixing up odds and ends at the chef that needed fixing in time for new years......we swapped out all the nasty white bulbs behind the tiki masks and around the fountain in favor of low wattage colored bulbs.....the place looks much more ambient now. we also moved some of the witco from the main foyer and reinstalled it in the dining room due to a rash of thefts recently.....we lost a couple witco masks due to theft there in the past month so if anyone in the surrounding area sees witco masks turn up for sale on craigslist or ebay, give us a shout......we'd love to catch em and return the masks back to the chef...... ..as an added bonus, we found some old vintage chef shangri-la key rings that will be raffled off in addition to the rest of the goodies bamboolodge has posted.....
