Phil-since nobody has responded, I'll throw in my 2 cents. UPCs 'came in' in the early to mid 70's. We had a brand new Alpha Beta store open up on Forbidden Island in about 1976 and they had gasp! scanners! It was the first store in the area with that technology and people flocked over there to see how fast their groceries were rung up with the new system. UPCs were started in about 73, but only on a limited basis. I'm not sure when they became manditory. Close to 1980, I think. I later worked at that Alpha Beta while attending College of Forbidden Island in the mid 80's. By then everyone was scanning and that store was a has-been (good ol' Alpha Beta #541!) So I'm guessing your bottle could well be pre-1975, hopefully older! Cool! I wish I had one!! :drink: |
