From the the age of seventeen he talked story with Rabbit Bartholomew, Peter Townend, Shaun Tomson, Mark Richards, Ian Cairns and more of the era's greatest surfers. All day long jim would listen to the best surfers of the era explain what they liked or didn't like about the boards they were currantly riding. Jim would shape his own experimental prototypes based on their tough requirements and test them down on his local break at Log Cabin; mere steps away from Off The Walls and Pipeline. Since then Jim's shaped over 15,000 surfboards, His early line of JET's (Jim Ellington Team Surfboards) are so cal collectables and his current retro fin designs are meticulously refined to fit any surfers needs with a commitment to high performance.
