When I associate music with Los Angeles, I think of narcissistic odes to shallowness that nobody outside of L.A. really cares to hear. Perhaps the quintessential L.A. musician is Christopher Cross, with his “Arthur’s Theme/Best That You Can Do,” or maybe “Sailing.” It’s got it all: Michael McDonald, white leisure suits and that slight whiff of cocaine in the afternoon.
