Here's more info on the origin of "Diga Diga Doo"
“Diga Diga Doo” is also the title of a classic “swing” song,
(which helped to inspire the painting). The song was
originally recorded in 1928. This song, written for the musical
Lew Leslie's Blackbirds of 1928, is best
characterized as the height of cool, late 20’s early '30s swing /
jazz style. "Blackbirds of 1928", was a revue by Jimmy McHugh
and Dorothy Fields, and the song "Diga Diga Doo" was the duo's first hit.

It went on to great popularity and was later covered by musicians such
as Duke Ellington, The Mills Brothers, Artie Shaw, and many others.
The song became, and still remains, a classic.

Martin Denny re-recorded “Diga Diga Doo” for his album: “Exotic Sounds Visit Broadway” released in
1961 on the Liberty label. Martin Denny’s version blossoms with all the Hawaiian elements that
created the exotica music craze.
Thumping to a slower beat, echoing with strange bird and animal calls, sparkling vibraphones, flutes and
drums this well known music becomes the strange dreamy theme to a mysteriously sensual, and some
what sinisterly haunting, jungle island paradise. I first I didn’t recognize the melody from it’s original version.

But, it’s Martin Denny’s version that moved me to create this painting. This “Low Brow” or “Tiki Art”
( pick your own favorite sub culture lable ) version of “Diga Diga Doo” is my best attempt
at a visual interpretation of it.

Also check out the limited edition Tiki Mug set based on the painting is being released by Tiki Farm.

Remember, this is my "HULA-WEEN" special. These re-marks are normally an extra $200.00 when ya' purchase a swanky giclee such as these at the gallery. However, until October 31st - the Artist's Re-Marks are FREE!!! There's only one pencil study (made during the creation of the painting) so when it's gone....it's gone!
