As Spring approaches and the great Winter thaw continues in New Jersey, my mind has already drifted toward thoughts of the hot, humid days of Summer. I can't shake the thought of tropical shores and white sandy beaches from my daydreams. So, I'm thinking of adding a couple of mid-century Hawaiian CDs to my music collection; you know albums that were popular during the 50s and 60s and would still sound fresh at a luau in 2010.

I searched the forums and only found mere mentions of the following albums, but no info regarding what they actually sound like. Track clips are non-existent online (believe it or not) and so I figured you guys could convey, in so many words, the essence/mood/quality of the albums listed below:

Johnny Coco "The Exotic Sounds Of The Hawaii Kai"

Prince Kalua And The Tropical Islanders "Hawaii's Greatest Hits"

Ethel Smith "Make Mine Hawaiian"

I also stumbled across what appears to be a pretty MOR, yet enjoyable, collection of Hawaiian instrumental favorites from the New Hawaiian Band called simply, "Hawaii's Greatest Hits." I read somewhere that the original LP was released in 1968 and I'm wondering if this, in addition to the albums listed above, is a good place to continue growing my collection.

Any thoughts?
