What if you did the same thing around the outside of a large Coffee Can, and then mount that behind the Mouth with a small, quiet DC motor to make it slowly rotate? Hopefully it'd look like slowly running Lava; kind of like the lava effect in the "Primeval World" Dinosaur Diorama at Disneyland.
