interesting, i had always assumed that the term "hinky dinks" came from the term "hinky dinky parlay voo," which was a world war 1 song that i believe lived on in vaudville. http://www.firstworldwar.com/audio/mademoisellefromarmentieres.htm

there was a grocery chain in nebrasky called hinky dinky's starting in 1925 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hinky_Dinky
