I think your right about that John-O, this was a 1960s show and updating it just would not work.
Maybe everyone should just rent the Porno Version and curse Hollywood for all these remakes!

How about Tony Soprano as the Skipper ?? Actually why not just do it as a movie version of the Sopranos where they all get shipwrecked on an tropical island. I think that's way more interesting and would be way more funny. "Soprano's Island". :)
A standard remake of "Gilligan's Island" is going to SUCK !! You all know it is. Name me one movie version of a TV comedy series that was any good.
