"The cocktail umbrella is believed to have arrived on the bar scene as early as 1932 courtesy of Victor Bergeron of Trader Vic's in San Francisco although it is, by Vic's own admission, a presentation picked up from Don the Beachcomber (now closed)."

So does that mean VJB Jr picked it up from Ernie Gantt before there was such a thing as Don the Beachcomber? Perhaps, it means that when DTB introduced the umbrella to Vic, he had a bar but there was no bar scene yet and as soon as there was a bar scene, TV was the one who first hauled out the parasols. 8)
